Summer Plans

How do you plan this summer to bring glory to Christ?

Here are some suggestions:

  • Commit to never missing a worship service
  • Commit to coming to Sunday school
  • Commit to coming to Wednesday night Bible study
  • Commit to volunteering to help with Sunday School
  • Commit to volunteering at VBS
  • Commit to studying your Bible every day
  • Commit to inviting people to worship service
  • Commit to going on or supporting a mission trip
  • Commit to praying daily for the church
  • Commit to not making excuses you can’t do the things listed above

I don’t worry about the future of the church.  The Lord has always maintained a remnant of people faithful to Him, but how discouraging is it when the faithful and the committed are few?

Consider how Elijah felt in 1 Kings 18:21,

21 Elijah came near to all the people and said, “How long will you hesitate between two opinions? If the Lord is God, follow Him; but if Baal, follow him.” But the people did not answer him a word.

This verse encapsulates much of what ministry looks like today.  Preachers pleading, “If the Lord is God, follow Him.” And the people, maybe smiling and nodding, but not answering a word.

Elijah, though one of the greatest men of God who ever lived, was left devastated by the people’s lack of response and commitment to the Lord.  So much so that he said three separate times, I alone am left (1 Kings 18:22, 1 Kings 19:10, 1 Kings 19:14).

Eventually, the Lord corrected Elijah and told him that there were 7,000 in Israel, all the knees that have not bowed to Baal and every mouth that has not kissed him (1 Kings 19:18).

How pitiful this group of 7,000 must have been!  Elijah didn’t even know that there was any left who were faithful.  He didn’t know because he didn’t see these people.

Here’s the thing.  This may sound like a guilt trip.  That’s not my intention.  I know you are out there.  I know that you care.  The question that I ask you, that I also ask myself, is this: Can anyone observing my life tell that I am committed to the Lord and that I’m actively following Him?  How about you?

How do you plan this summer to bring glory to Christ?

Much love to you all!
