A Mission Field Almost Five Hours Away

On Sunday, July 25th at approximately 1pm, some of us will leave the church parking lot and travel to Hollis, Oklahoma.

We will work on various indoor and outdoor projects on the property belonging to Westview Boys Home, a wonderful mission organization that our church has supported for many years.

There will be work suitable for men and women and far more work than we can accomplish in the five days that we will be working there.

Like all mission organizations, the work is plentiful but the workers are few!

I’ll attempt to answer some common questions:

  1. Q) What if I can’t stay the whole week?
  2. A) Stay for as long as you would like. There is no obligation to stay the whole week, however, plan accordingly, we will be taking a van, so if you have to leave early, you’ll have to make separate arrangements.

  1. Q) How much will this cost me?
  2. A) All housing and meals are provided, so it doesn’t have to cost you anything! And I’ll also add, they spoil us considerably with snacks and drinks the whole time we are there.

  1. Q) How hard is the work?
  2. A) There is so much to do, it can be as hard or as easy as you like – there is plenty of work to go around.

  1. Q) What is the work?
  2. A) We will be building shelves in the commissary – their version of a grocery store, used to stock food for each of the houses. We will be doing some indoor painting. We will be organizing the donated clothing.  We will be doing some outdoor construction. Those are just a handful of the things that I discussed with director, Terry Owens.

  1. Q) Where will we stay?
  2. A) Westview has a very large home used to house visiting groups. The home is very nice and comfortable.

  1. Q) Do we interact with the boys that live there?
  2. A) The boys will be on their summer breaks, so some will be gone, but many will be there. We eat lunch with the boys every day.

If you have additional questions, feel free to ask one of us that have gone before – myself, Rex, Nathan, Levi or Leon Shoemaker.

These trips are filled with great blessings from the Lord.  It’s one of those things that you have to experience for yourself to appreciate and understand.  Yes, we’re working, but it’s a lot of fun, fellowship, laughter and bonding as well.  Memories are made that will last a lifetime!

As an added “bonus,” you may even get to see some rattlesnakes and go adventuring in the evenings!  If that doesn’t sell you, I don’t know what would!

Please let me know if you would like to go!

Much love,
