Many have wrong ideas about following Jesus. I’m no different, but I have learned differently.
Allow me to cut through all the excuses that I could use as examples and just simply say that following Jesus will always require two things:
Sacrifice and prioritization.
What I’ve observed, and been guilty of myself, is believing that following Jesus should be easier than it is and more convenient than it has ever been.
When it comes to sacrifice, I’ve learned that following Jesus costs me money or time, but most often it costs me both.
When it comes to prioritization, I’ve learned that not only is following Jesus disruptive to what many would consider the regular patterns of life, but it also means that I must give up other things that I want to do to follow Jesus.
The way that regular life is set up, there’s no room for following Jesus. When opportunities come along to serve or attend, you’ll quickly find out that to do either will most often require some kind of sacrifice and prioritization.
Some do, some don’t. And before we know it, life is over. How about me? How about you?
Consider these things and do what it takes to make obedience to God a reality in your life and not just empty words. James 1:22 warns,
“But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not merely hearers who delude themselves.”
Much love!
