The Resulting of Forgiving

Sometimes we can get away with forgetting things.  At one time in my life, I could locate and write the name and capital city of every state in the United States (In 7th grade).  Today, I am fairly confident I could get at least 90% correct, but I have forgotten some of that information.

It’s not really a big deal to forget some details like that, and by not a big deal, I mean that it doesn’t affect my day to life in any significant way, but there are some things that, when forgotten, can cause all kinds of troubles.

For instance, our text this week is Romans 8:1, Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

This is one Biblical text that it pays to understand, memorize and continually cherish within your heart.  To not know this verse is to set yourself up for anxieties that the children of God were never meant to experience.

For instance, sometimes I feel condemned when the spiritual reality is that, in Christ, there is no condemnation.  At times like this I have to rely upon what I know, not what I feel.  But if I have forgotten what I know, I’m left with the terrible feeling of condemnation that just isn’t true.  The consequence of feeling condemned is feeling ashamed and unworthy and in that state of mind, I’m not motivated to do anything in the service of God for His glory.

But when I recall the amazing truth of the verse, I’m better equipped to simply repent and move on with life because I know that the sin that caused my feeling of condemnation was forgiven at the cross and my status before God is not guilty.

As we study the Book of Romans, and particularly the eighth chapter, I pray that you will learn as much as possible so that in doing so your will be empowered to live more and more as salt in light in this world …forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead (Philippians 3:13).

For our good and His glory!
