The Journey Continues

Everyone who earnestly studies the Bible has their own frustrations.  Some get frustrated over theological questions, others about authorship of different Books of the Bible, and others about translations from ancient to modern languages.

But as one of my favorite theologians frequently says, “The main things are the plain things and the plain things are the main things.”  I find that saying very helpful and try to maintain my focus on the things that I can know, however, the greatest frustration that I deal with, nags at me from time to time.

My frustration is wanting more information.  When John writes in John 21:25, 25 And there are also many other things which Jesus did, which if they were written in detail, I suppose that even the world itself would not contain the books that would be written, this drives me a little crazy.  I want the details!

As we conclude the Book of Acts, I feel the same regarding its ending, which simply says, in Acts 28:30-31, 30 And he stayed two full years in his own rented quarters and was welcoming all who came to him, 31 preaching the kingdom of God and teaching concerning the Lord Jesus Christ with all openness, unhindered.

We know a little more based upon letters he wrote from Rome, but not much about the last years of Paul’s life.

But even more than the last years of Paul’s life, I am also filled with wonder regarding what the last years of my own life will entail.  It is my desire to live in such a way that Jesus is glorified through my words and actions in my remaining time, however much  or little that may be.

While I yearn for greater details, there is also a beauty the ending of the Book of Acts.  It doesn’t end.  The Book of Acts introduces what we call “The Church Age,” and until Jesus returns to this earth, the journey continues with you and me and with all who put their faith in Jesus.

Let us use the time allotted to us following Jesus – for our good and His glory.

Much love,
