One Year Ago…

Last year, for a New Year’s sermon, I preached the text of 2 Corinthians 4:16-18,

16 Therefore we do not lose heart, but though our outer man is decaying, yet our inner man is being renewed day by day. 17 For momentary, light affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison, 18 while we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen; for the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal.

and set the following resolutions for 2020:

  • Do Not Lose Heart
  • Prioritize Spiritual Strength
  • Think Daily of Heaven
  • Treasure the Eternal

Wow.  Did we need those resolutions for 2020 or what?  Am I a prophet?  Let’s not get carried away; Those are resolutions that are good for any year.

This year, I have another exciting text that I’m using to set my resolutions for 2021, and it’s my prayer that you will make them your own as well.  The text is 2 Timothy 2:1-7:

You therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. 2 The things which you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, entrust these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also. 3 Suffer hardship with me, as a good soldier of Christ Jesus. 4 No soldier in active service entangles himself in the affairs of everyday life, so that he may please the one who enlisted him as a soldier. 5 Also if anyone competes as an athlete, he does not win the prize unless he competes according to the rules. 6 The hard-working farmer ought to be the first to receive his share of the crops. 7 Consider what I say, for the Lord will give you understanding in everything.

Can you pick out the major points?  Can you guess the resolutions?

I’m going to approach 2021 with hope.  I have many high hopes for the new year.  I have some travel hopes of places I want to go and things I want to see.  I have some spiritual hopes of ways I want grow in Christ.  I have some corporate goals of things I want us to learn together and things I want us to do together.

Won’t your join me in setting some goals for the year?  Let’s dream it, then plan it and do it.  Let’s join, as much as possible, the Lord in His good work.

Much love!
