Nowhere Home

Sometimes I experience an overwhelming feeling that I am not where I should be.  I don’t mean being some place that I feel morally compromised, though, in my younger years I was often guilty of being places I had no business being.

I mean geographically.  It’s a strange feeling, and one that I can’t really understand.  For instance, I have often felt this feeling when I was in another state or country, far from home.

Most recently, I felt this feeling while driving over a high mountain pass in Colorado.  It just happened that when my family and I were driving though the Rockies, that the area we were in experienced the largest snowstorm of the season.

In the high altitude, in a foreign environment, with snow pouring down all around, I could not shake the sensation that I was somewhere I just should not have been.

Logically, from a worldly perspective, this makes no sense, but spiritually speaking, I think that this sensation can serve as a good reminder of what Paul says in Philippians 3:20-21,

20 For our citizenship is in heaven, from which also we eagerly wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ; 21 who will transform the body of our humble state into conformity with the body of His glory, by the exertion of the power that He has even to subject all things to Himself.

Why do I get the sensation that I’m somewhere that I don’t belong?  Because this world is not my home.  And while there are places that I feel more at home than others, there will one day be a place where I feel perfectly at home and as Paul explains, I won’t only be given a place that I feel at home, I will also be given a body that I feel at home in.

Praise be to God who will accomplish all of these things for those who follow Jesus and belong to Him!

For our good and His glory!
