A Strange Opportunity

I recently had a strange opportunity to praise the Lord.  As far as I know, I have never contracted influenza in my entire life, that is, until last week.

Caroline got it first and then, slowly but surely, each member of the LeFlore household fell to the flu.  It wasn’t a pretty sight.

But something neat happened in the midst of these circumstances.  Sometime late Thursday night, or was it early Friday morning?  I don’t recall.  I was in a state of fevered delirium when I had a violent thought, “Wes! Practice what you preach! Praise God even in the midst of your misery!”

So that’s what I did.  I praised God for my fever and chills and my aching body.  I praised him for enduring far worse because He loved me.

I had a lot of sweat from my fever, but unlike Jesus, I didn’t sweat drops of blood.  My body had a lot of aches and pains, but not from being beaten with a whip or having giant nails driven through my body.  I was having difficulty breathing, but nothing like the difficulty that Jesus had hanging on the cross.

In my moments of feverish prayer and praise, I still felt bad, but I gained some perspective as well, even if it was just a very small amount.

Because of Jesus, I’ve learned to be thankful for any and all of life’s experiences.  He has given me a perspective in which I can never again feel sorry for myself.  That same perspective also enables me to praise Him in the midst of any circumstance.

Much love and watch out for that flu!
